I just received these items this past week, but only opened them last night. The 3 panes were folded in half in order to fit into under-sized glassines - causing almost complete perf separations - and the two souvenir sheets were stuffed into another under-sized glassine that folded the corners.

This is not the first time this seller has done this, but he always blames his "employees". The seller is always happy to refund your $$ including partial refunds if you want to keep the lot.

I want to say I'm fed-up and done with him, but I get so many incredible bargains, that at the end of the day, the scales always tip in my favor.

What would you do?

Brian

Send these back for refund, give him this URL, and tell him from now on, every stupid mistake will be published HERE with photos, along with his name, Seller ID, and address.

You might also inform the seller that the feedback you provide will indicate that the returned material was damaged due to the seller's improper packaging.

Settle down everyone. You show some folded stamps to a bunch of collectors and a full scale riot erupts. Send them back and tell him poorly trained employees are from totally inept employers! Are the savings worth the aggravation? Lose his name and address and move on!

The "employee" is probably his "spouse" --- which is "why" nothing ever changes - he's MORE AFRAID of getting them angry then he is of getting his customers' angry!

There are some things you can never change.

There's nearly $700 in catalogue value in these pictures. My investment represents ~$200. Your comment is a troll.

The question isn't whether or not I will get a refund ... The seller isn't going to rip me off.

My questions are: Do I continue doing business with a dealer who is reckless and destructive with valuable stamps? Should I not care how others treat their stamps?

This is not an isolated incident and it will happen again. As long as people buy from him, he has no reason to care, and I contribute to the problem because I am not afraid to do business with him.

I've stated it before ... dealers are not philatelists. And this one could care less about preserving anything he sells.

That is a sad picture, indeed. Makes me wonder if the perf separations had already occurred and just weren't disclosed to you.

I would only continue to deal with the bonehead if he was sourcing stuff for me that I couldn't find elsewhere...in that case, the hassles of frequent returns might be worth it. Under any other circumstances, we'd be done...

Hi to all

I have always been one to "vote with the Feet" as they say in Retail.
If it happened once, then it is an unfortunate mistake, if it happens again then it is nothing but plain "I got my money" attitude.
Do not buy from him again, get your refund first, then tell all and every-one his name, business name and location.
When he starts to loose clients he will quickly wake up to what he is doing.
As has been said, many dealers are not philatelists and do not not take that extra bit of care.
Regards
Horamakeht.

Hi !
I have done a serious amount of internet stamp buying in the last 6 months. Out of 180-210 transactions, I have had 3 problems. All 3 were easily resolved with no problem. My point is it appears that there are a lot of good sellers out there that want to assure they have happy buyers. OK, you obviously have had some really good deals from this seller, and he has made good on the problems. Therefore, I see no reason to dump him. What I would do is that when you buy a panel or unusually sized stamps, I would remind him to please assure they are properly packaged. Of course you should not have to do this, but it could well make a difference.

Ha, I agree his "employees" are very likely loved ones, and he is stuck...............

Not sure if you want to share the vendor's name, but doing so would not scare me off..............

ENJOY,
Mobilman44

It really doesn't matter what we would do, It's really what you are going to do, and your above quote answers that.
I have seen you exclaim about great deals you have had with this fellow, several times in the past, so it's kinda take the good with the bad.
You know he takes back lots if you complain.

It is apparent also, you cannot change him, so you are going to have to cop it sweet.
It is your desire to have things be different, is the problem,
if you accept this is the way things are, then you will settle down.
Get your incredible deals, return the botched ones and
carry on regardless.
Ditch him, and you will be cutting off your nose, to spite your face.

I have had him cut tops off stamps, bend stamps et al,
but he is also behind some of the hardest stamps to source
for my collections.
The guy is a rough diamond, appreciate what you have here, and
contemplate where you would be if he closed shop.

If you are getting good prices and finding difficult to locate items you may want to ask the seller if he would provide special packaging for an additional fee. If this addresses the problems then you are still doing good. Sometimes we can do little more than reward incompetence.

Rileysan,
I have stopped doing business with the quebec dealer you are still dealing with. Too many problems. See my topic "Online Stamp Auction Horror Stories"...also could add that a MNH 158 bluenose block of 4 with tab I purchased was folded like yours to save space!...I was furious.
Also had scotch tape on some stamps as stamps were just stuffed into pkg and sealed with tape.
Move on!

Thank you all for the input, and I knew I wouldn't have to name the dealer for some of you to figure out who I was talking about.

In spite of this dealer's reputation (call him every negative name you want ... I certainly did when I received this lot), the undeniable fact is my collection has exploded in quantity, quality, and value, because I buy from him.

As Rod stated:

I am approaching 900 purchases from this dealer alone - including some of my most valued items. That represents nearly a third of all my online purchases. Finding a replacement just isn't going to happen.

I have worked out a deal that was satisfactory to both of us, and my knees have subsequently stopped jerking.

I think this is a great idea but unfortunately, the damage will already have been done by the time the items are listed. He photographs, packages, catalogues, and labels the items before anyone even bids on them.

But it still might be worth a try ...

Rileysan, I also buy from this dealer and think his packaging leaves something to be desired. However, as you pointed out he offers some great stamps and they sometimes go at great prices. He also is very reasonable when you report problems with the purchase. I take the good with the bad and will continue to bid on items he lists.
