So I am kinda rambling through the old stamp album (I really need to get a Scott guide) and I'm thinking, this is nutz I am NOT going to assemble everything into a collection to be passed down to a grandkid, I will just assemble the brit Can and US stamps and if there are Irish stamps them too. Keep it family themed. So I have lots of others that will just wait for them to fuss over or not. That said I can across a Japanese stamp of an old guy (told ya I need a guide) with holes punched through. Anyone know why it would be holed like this? Thanks

This is a perfin (perforated initials), designed to prevent employees from stealing stamps for their own personal use. Collectible, but minimal value. |

" kinda rambling through the old stamp album"... lots of us would like to ramble with you. Post scans and let us see them. The interest value far outstrips the monetary value for most collectors. Nice Japanese perfin. Looking forward to any GB but everything is of interest. |

Quote: there sure are a lot of little things about stamp collecting to know If you aren't learning something new every time you spend time with your stamps, you're doing it wrong. There are a several lifetimes of knowledge out there. Ain't it grand? |

............ not sure on CRP on Belgie.
(If it was Canadian it would be Canadian Pacific Railways)
I find perfins a fascination topic for a collection. Someone somewhere on SC has a list I think

Maybe it is the same CPR....just found this info
The Candian Pacific Railway Company (CPR) had offices in London, England at 62-65 Charing Cross, and at 8 Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, S.W., and at the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool. It was the London offices that began the practice of perforating stamps for postal use, and of acquiring overprinted stamps for fiscal use. (The use of perfins would spread to other CPR offices in Belgium, Germany, and Canada.)
What would we do without Google? |
