So since my return to stamping, I just can't seem to stop oggling on ebay at all the super stuff!

However, I am limited by my very very shallow pockets so I tend to stay away from stuff higher than $ 20.00

And since there seem to be very serious collectors here I was wondering what is the most you guys have paid for a stamp.

So having said that I shall start:

$ 13.00 for a SIERRA LEONE SCOTT# 27 MLH

One more thing I forgot to include, what is the CV as opposed to what you paid?

I paid exactly CV, yes I bought it from a dealer at his store so I probably could have got it for less on ebay..but I could not resist.

So whats the CV on that stamp spain_1850?

I'm trying to get a feel for real price vs CV in general.

I think, at the time I bought it in 2000, the cv for a used copy was around $350, I have no idea now. My newest Scott is from 2008 (CD version), but I can't get it to load right now.

So far the Canada Jubilee series is hurting me the most and into the hundreds per stamp. Still looking for the $3, $4, $5.

spain_1850 hopefully it should be worth more.

Lol Pj...don't worry she wont read it, go ahead and disclose it.

Philb sorry to hear that, but im sure you bought stuff that has now appreciated many fold.

Stamps101, I know what you mean, i'm not sure if it would be worth to buy a stamp for say 100-200 dollars without being sure if the value is going to drop (like phils example).

A 1d red Australia KGV used on a piece. It is the most expensive standard printing flaw in the 1d reds. Won it at an overseas auction about 12 months ago. Purchased it with stock replacement funds. Hopefully it will give a very good return. Great for the stock buying funds.

It will be in Prestige Philately auction in March.

In 1990 I purchased a set of the 1954 Laos Golden Jubilee issue for £50 [now $75].
The SG catalogue value then was £180 for the 3 stamps.
The SG catalogue value in 2001 was £235.
I have no idea of the current SG or Scott values, although the two values are far apart.
The Scott catalogue value in 2007 was $225.50 [about £150]
I once collected Laotian stamps but the collection has [mostly] been sold. I still have this set though !

I also spent the same amount [£50] in 2011 for a Reproduction block of the 1929 GB UPU £1 stamp. It was offered in a limited edition Presentation pack.
As a modern Cinderella item it has no catalogue value but I was offered £400 for it about 6 months after issue.
So I guess one could call it a 'market value' of a kind !

These are my most expensive purchases.

Some years ago, I spent around £3000, with buyer's premium, on this

Barwani SG 18da, the 1923 ¼ Anna rose perf 7 on wove paper. It was one of those stamps I simply had to have, and I've never heard of or seen another copy since - and I have been looking, believe me. It currently catalogues £4,250, but that's meaningless if, as I stronly suspect, I have the only one, and I'm not selling.

The most I've paid for a single stamp was for this little guy...

I paid $3,000.

It has no CV. In Michel, the double OP catalogs for €2,400 (about $3,200), and the inverted OP is the same, but there's no listing for the double OP with one inverted and mirrored.

It's one of only 12 known to exist (and it's one of the best looking, if not the best looking, of the 12), so I went far above my usual percentage of CV.

My stamps seem cheap compared to some of you guys!

About 340 Euro on my avatar Vespa yellow error stamp...

...and 400US on a 1983 Bangladesh printers proof imperf of card, stamped with "Preserved in postal archive" and "approved" handwriting with signature & hand stamp of "director general of post"

Regards
Gavin
