We are looking to start selling through BidStart.

It looks to good to be true at a glance!

Can I have a paypal account for ebay and another paypal account for bidstart?

Is a paypal only payment option going to work on BidStart?

Any other comment very welcome.

We will be starting as like on ebay with no history of buying or selling! So it will be a 12 month commitment to start with. We have got a healthy amount of stock.

I am going to follow in your footsteps when the U.S. summer slowdown comes, and target winter-time buyers south of the Equator; will be watching your progress carefully.

I have no idea whether you can have two PayPal accounts, but there is one small problem. Because BidStart caters to some very LOW lot prices, the people who buy just one cheap item - how do you deal with them? Postage becomes a HUGE problem, and PayPal's flat fee knocks out individual sales, makes them a loss. So right from the start, you have to strive for a purchase of 5 or 10 items in one shipment, if you are selling low-end material, that is. I don't have an answer for that yet.

If you want to create a "separate" PayPal account you will most likely need to use a different email address and bank account etc - And Doug's comments re postage and low value items are very valid from a business point of view

Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

I am going in with the same selling approach as we have with ebay.

I do not like the single letter rate very cheap stamp listing with buy now at 8c and $3 mailing that seem to be the norm on BidStart.

We have a lot of the harder to get stamps in top shelf condition.

Will try and do a simplified run of high denominations Australia 1990 to now and listing these stamps as singles. I think this is the best kick off for us.

Really want to keep ebay sales totally separate to BidStart sales so will try and start a new paypal account with a new email address but with the same bank account as the 1st paypal account and if this does not work we will open a new bank account. It is nice to get pointed in the right direction.

With BidStart we will not be having free mailing.

Opened our membership with BidStart about 12 months ago and never used it. So I am trying to wake this membership up but need my wife's help. She is due home in a couple of hours.

This might work - every BidStart listing carries the note, "Buy and pay for any six items at one time and get free postage," something like that, which not only accomplishes your goal but may get buyers to look at more of your stuff, searching for the 5th and 6th items, which is when you get impulse purchases. The alternative, "Free postage if your purchase totals $8 or more," etc., although that requires a different type of wording in the listing itself.

Hi doug2222

Could you please give some more information about this quote? Especially the flat rate PayPal cost. It would be huge help for me and others I would think. Thanks KGV.

These quotes are extremely helpful!

PayPal Buyer Protection for All Eligible Items on bidStart

PayPal Buyer Protection
When reviewing a possible item for purchase, one of the first steps most buyers take is to review the feedback of the seller. When you see a 100% positive feedback rating, with over 10,000 individual feedback left, you know that the seller will provide you with an outstanding and safe shopping experience, and that you can shop with confidence. However, what if a seller is new to bidStart, and doesn't have any substantial feedback yet?

While every seller on bidStart started with 0 feedback at some point, many buyers may be hesitant to purchase from new sellers. However, did you know that if the seller offers PayPal, the item will be eligible for PayPal's Buyer Protection? More importantly, PayPal recently expanded this coverage on websites such as bidStart, to include full purchase price protection, including shipping for items which you purchase and do not arrive. Additionally, PayPal's Buyer Protection also protects your payment when an item arrives significantly different than as described.

To help remind buyers that when they purchase an item with PayPal, they're able to receive this great coverage at no extra charge, we've added a 'Buy Confidently - PayPal Buyer Protection' logo to all eligible item listings. Google Checkout and MoneyBookers also offer similar services, which you can review on their websites.

Kgv you can sync all your ebay sales with bidstart, which site the lot sells on is the site that you will pay fees to as far as I know. Hopefully there there are a few members here that use this that might chirp in.

Google Checkout looks like a better deal due to taking a credit card. I have an old PayPal account that was dormant for several years. I used it in late November to pay a 6 month renewal for a sports blog. Got a bill from a PayPal offshoot, BillMeLater, and fortunately, was able to send a check via US Mail to pay the bill. Reason for using regular mail was that PayPal refused access to my account unless I provided them with updating information required by federal law, including a copy of my social security card, copy of a utility bill so they could verify my actual street address (I use a post office box) and a couple other things I've forgotten.

This came, as near as I could tell, legitimately from PayPal. For obvious reasons, there is no way I'm providing any of this stuff to PayPal. As a result, it appears I can use the account only on a pay-as-you-go basis via BillMeLater and can't access most of the account because they won't accept either my old password or a new password. Anyone else have this sort of issue dealing with PayPal? Just curious. Thanks.

The answer is Yes to 2 PayPal accounts.

But must have 2 different email and bank accounts.

I am now waiting for PayPal's conformation in the next 2-3 days.

Then I can sign up for bidStart and get my 1st good look at it all.

Hi irishjack.

Do you know if your feedback score goes with you if you transfer listings from ebay to bidStart?

Can only a days listings, of say 75 listings be transferred from ebay over to bidStart?

Very interesting! I had forgot about that angle! But I would like to keep them totally separate because of our situation.

I dont sell on bidstart so not sure, but I would think that your feedback score would not transfer and you will be starting from scratch, but if you use the same user-name many buyer buy from both sites so they will recognize you.

If I was you I would link all your sales to both sites and after 3 months have a look at which one you get the most bites from, I would think ebay will have the bigger slice of the pie.

Stanley gibbons has both ebay and bid-start stores and have there auctions sync to both sites , that tells me something
