Hi Quote: I did see in the post office bulletin that post office boxes will still get mail on Saturdays. That makes sense, if your Post Office is open on Saturday. The personnel have to be there anyways. The article did say that packages will be delivered. on Saturdays. Jerry B |

Hi, I think most folks expected this to happen sooner or later. Man, I live for that mail delivery! I will surely miss it, but like new cars, jobs, and wives, I will get used to it.

They will stop delivery, but will they stop processing mail internally also? I guess they would have to.

I got my mail today and I liked it. I guess there's demand for mail so they come and give it to me.
I'm sure most people would agree, if there's demand for something, save money by getting rid of it. Or maybe not. |

Lets look at this -------many workers were getting overtime at 1 1/2 pay rate on Saturdays, mail has fallen by 20%,most mailings are going to be cheaper third class stuff.More and more companies are sending invoices electronicly.Even the government is sending S.S. and tax refunds by wire to your bank . |

More smaller post offices also will be cutting hours and replacing federal postal workers with temps (hired for $9-11/hr, no benefits) as well. I just learned my local post office will be switching to a four hours per day schedule next year down from it's 7 1/2hr schedule. It's a busy post office as well due to it's prime location right off the main road between Bennington, VT and Troy, NY. I really don't want to lose my postal clerk as he caters to stamp collectors very well. |

Out of touch from the land Down Under! So all the USA has Saturday open PO's and mail delivery. But they changed their stamp gum to oil based to save money. Good bye Saturday's, welcome back water based gum is what I say! USA Mail needs a CEO just like me! |

Wow our local PO not that long ago closed from Midday to 1pm for lunch.
We use to pick up our mail from the PO 4 years ago.
Now it gets delivered to home.
For the Christmas season our PO opened on Saturdays for 4hrs and they have done it for 3 years now.

Since it was a holiday, I had no mail for two days, my box was stuffed with large envelopes where I hit my knuckle trying to get it out.
Won't it be fun when we have 3 day weekends with no mail!
*needed to vent big time* |
