ZIPPER----I lived at 6023 Talman and my brother graduted from Gage Park in 1969.We go swimming there at the field house. I would walk up to the Marquette Park fieldhouse for stamp club meetings of the Ogden Hills Stamp Club.Marshal Fields store was too high class for us.I also lived in OLD TOWN at 1430 N.Wells street from 1970 until 1975. Next to the fudge shop and next to Chance R ,worked at BIZARRE BAZAREE which was across the street . |

Old Town is yuppified now. The original Piper's Alley is gone. I'd buy a copy of The Seed at Studio One and go next door to La Piazza to read it. (Best deep dish pizza in town.) Lived one block west at 1641 N. North Park. Had breakfast at the Stagecoach. Shopped at Treasure Island. Steve Goodman played at the Earl of Old Town (wrote Go Cubs Go). However, I'm still a Sox fan. Surprisingly, so are many in my neighborhood. Did you live on Burton Place?

Floortrader,
I lived at 2723 W. 51st Street. I lived with my mother and grandmother, so good clothes were a must.
I, too, went swimming at Gage Park's pool. Played volleyball on a team in the field house. Played baseball on the diamond west of the field house. Hung out at Gage Park bowling alley. Used to ride our bikes to Marquette Park and climb the monument. Did you hang with the 63rd Street Breezers? Or the 59th Street Loafers?
I remember Bizarre Bazaar. We probably passed each other on the street and ate at the same restaurants. Drank at Chances R now and then. Lums, too.
Stallzer, State and Schiller is a great address. |

If I may insert a useless fact, humorist Stan Freberg once had a character named "Bang Gunley, U.S. Marshall Fields".
(I TOLD you it was useless!) |

For me I was Taft(77). Moved to Elgin 25 years or so ago. I also think there maybe or is a coin and stamp place near Harlem and Higgins. Never been there though. I was in the old Norwood Park area 1 block from the school. |

Floortrader, I guess with a nickname such as Zipper, one would would assume I'm male; I'm not. Back in our prime, I was euphemistically referred to as a tomboy. In 1969 I got my nickname because I'm tall and skinny and if I stand sideways and stick out my tongue I look like a zipper. Bad joke, but it stuck.
Never been to Rasdale's. Where is it? Never been to a show, either. Intended to go to the bourse on Milwaukee Ave. last summer, but the weather was brutally hot and humid so I skipped it. |

I remember going to the Marshall Field's stamp counter in the early and mid 70's. It was very impressive. I used to go there and then head over to John G. Ross. I miss those days. |

Von Steuben H.S. Marshall Field's every Saturday & John Ross. Frango mints yum. Ran a men's necktie booth at Bizarre Bazaar with a live skunk.Very profitable. Archie's stamp store on Devon ave. and many stamps stores up & down Devon ave. The ultimate dream. A stamp show at the Palmer House. My father and I went to them all. We still have the house off Peterson & Kimball since 1953. Thanks for the memories. |
