Poll Question:
I have two DDR stamps that differ in two important ways. The first has a great cancel that identifies clearly enough where the mailed piece ended up, but it's missing a perf or two in an upper corner. The second stamp looks great, but its cancel could be Toledo or Katmandu. Which do I put in my album? (The monetary value of the stamp is unimportant to me.)

I should note, although this is clearly not part of your question, I would keep both, one in the main collection and the other in interesting cancels and varieties. |

Here are the two stamps. The first is actually more beat up than I described, but I didn't want to sway opinion. |

The left stamp looks postally used, while the right stamp seems to be CTO. I'd keep the left stamp, but be on the look out for a better example.

I'd go with the one on the left or mount them side by side, if possible. |

I find it interesting that when a forum member posts a question of a or b and other members respond with c. |

I go for "c" too. I like the stamp on the left and I'd mount that, search for a better example, and mount the second stamp beside the first. |

I would go for the right one. OK, the left one is genuinely used but it's damaged. Indeed maybe keep it in a secondary collection. |

Which one do you like better? If it were up to me, I'd take the left one because I like postmarks, but it would be a tough choice because the right one has better coloration. But it's really up to you. If you put the left one on the page where it belongs and it looks ugly and beat by comparison with whatever else is on the page, put the other one there and decide whether which one looks better there. |

The postally used example (left) is more important philatelically but is badly damaged. This is a very common stamp (Scott catalog minimum value). It shouldn't be that difficult to find a better postally used example. |

I would go with the identified cancel, the other appears to be a CTO to me.

I'd put the one on the right on the album page...it's more colorful and not damaged. Then I would mount the one on the left on my 'cancels by decade' page following that section. And, I would still be on the lookout for a nicely canceled, undamaged copy. |

Well KGB, have you decided to go with the Poll's outcome or otherwise?
I'm curious...

The one on the right would make it into my album. Better looking and you can see the image. |
