If we can get reliable information and cooperation from the police or the newspaper or other public authority, put me down for 100 different from each of 10 different countries - I'll never miss 'em.
I just dropped a note to the Web Editor at the Birmingham Mail. |

Same goes for me, would be happy to send some stuff on to him. I can only imagine how sickened he was by this, would hate it to happen to me. But I am surprised that any burglar would go to the trouble of carrying away a bulky stamp collection. Can't see too many of the burglar fraternity being stamp addicts like us! Normally this is an opportunist crime, in and out quickly taking small valuable items like jewellery or cash. Perhaps this was done by someone who knew the collection and might have had an over-inflated idea of it's value? Keep an eye on E-bay for ' inherited' collections in the Birmingham area. |

The theft of the stamps is secondary to the theft of the time (70+ years) and pleasure he put into and received from his hobby. |

Hi to all
Unfortunately most robberies are done by friends of friends. I do not say this lightly, but from experience and what the police told me when I one had a robbery. They took all the family swords and daggers, and the police said they would have been stolen to order and would have been out of the country in less than 12 hours. The worst part of being robbed is the mess the perpetrators cause. For months even the slightest noise frightens you. Now unfortunately I have alarms everywhere in the house and back-up systems as well. There is always some-one home, and the neighbours also keep an eye out for us. I can empathise with how he feels. At least my burglars did not like books and stamps. Horamakhet |

I too have large stocks of many Canadian stamps and covers that would be gladly donated. |

As of 4 p.m. Birmingham time, no reply yet. But it's Friday, and/or the woman may be out of town, or busy preparing the weekend edition. We'll see. |

doug Unless Birmingham is in a different time zone to North Wales, it's just turned 3 pm, not 4! |

the for the writer of the article is: newsdesk@birminghammail.co.uk
I wrote asking what area he collected so I could tailor my donation; I'd hate to send him something he wouldn't collect.
I'm in -- I know how I would feel if my collection were stolen.

Count me in for Canadian dupes or oter countries I don't collect. Perhaps collectively we can fill the void he feels now. |

I have some stamps of Ascension Island, St Helenas, and New Zealnd which I could easily part with. I really feel for the gentleman. |

What an amazing family not just here on SCF but stamp collectors in general. I would bet the farm the guy would respectfully decline the offers but if we can get the info I am sure he will feel extreme gratitude . I've also been victim of a theif to my garage and valuable fishing equipment. Of course it was someone who knew what was there as they walked over far more valuable tools and items to get at the target. I concur that the worst part is the loss of a sense of security and definatly know how every little noise has you looking out the windows. Hopefully we can get the info and make this guys day a little brighter. Anyone in UK have some connections?? |

I agree, we are a great bunch! Does anyone know if we send a packet of stamps to this fellow, will the UK charge import duties? This is an area I know nothing about. yakboomer |

Wow, I sure hope people can help this collector out! I hope he isn't so devastated that he doesn't even want to see a stamp anymore... I wonder if dealers are on the lookout for his collection being offered for sale? |
