Hi! I received an application form for the APS, along with one of their monthly magazines. I really enjoyed it, and a second one I came across later on.
As I started to fill out the application, the need for credit card information stopped me. I certainly understand the need if I am buying something, but I am not (I will pay my dues with a check).
I have belonged to a number of organizations for decades (I.E: NMRA, NRA, ATSF Historical, ICRR Historical, etc.) and none have ever required credit card information.
For you members out there, what is your take on this?
Thank you, Mobilman44

I was thinking of joining too, but not if they need my credit card right off the bat. If a check won't suffice, I'll hold off. All I can figure, it's for them loaning out books and such. If that time comes, then I'll possibly supply it.

I just looked at an APS membership application. It asks for your credit card information as a commercial reference; however, it allows you to provide an alternative commercial reference such as a stamp dealer that you've done business with, your employer, etc. |

i joinned before credit cards were the norm...the folks at APS are extremely polite..i am sure you can get an answer from them..of course you know they do check on you..it may take a couple of months..the APS is very concerned about its reputation. When you are accepted ..you will be accepted by stamp collectors and dealers everywhere ! Phil APS 070059 since 1973 ! |

As an APS member for more than 25 years, please let me second philb's recommendation to send them an email and not let this get in your way of your joining. As has been indicated, the application also says that the name and address of any company or stamp dealer you have done business with will be fine as a substitute. |

Hi, and thanks for the input. The only dealer I have worked with (other than ebay vendors) is Bill Athens at NOLA Stamp Shop. I will email him and see if I can use him. |

philb: you beat me by a year. I joined in early 1974 and have never regretted that decision. |

Hi again! Well, Mr. Athens from NOLA Stamp Shop vouched for me, and I filled out the online form, paid the dues, and was assigned a "Pxxxxx" number. I assume that some time goes by before I am considered a regular member. Is that a good assumption, or ????
Thanks all, Mobilman44 |
