OK, as discussed in a recent thread, Scott's does not give as much help as we all desire. In this case, there is a somewhat helpful note, "Used Values of 1920-23 are for Favor-Canceled stamps, unless otherwise noted. Postally used examples bring much higher prices."

Here is a snapshot from my page with 3 examples that I consider postally used, but I am now not quite so sure of the 4M stamp. I've seen plenty of CTO, but maybe German favor canceled stamps are more authentic. Scott's price difference is significant ($6.00 versus $37.50). Any comments?

Not an expert, but my "quick glance" opinions without checking the cancel dates...

left: postally used
center: non-postally used
right: hard to say because the cancel is so weak, but I'm leaning toward postally used

I'll leave it to the experts now...

Hi,

I don't see anything wrong with the Oliva postmark on the 50pf stamp.

It's one of the more common "non-Danzig" Danzig postmarks.

The only 'non-Danzig' Danzig postmark I find more frequently than Oliva is Zoppot.

I wonder about #3. It looks like two overlapping strikes. The ring doesn't appear to me to be an arc of a circle, though it could just be a bad strike.

The premium for a postally-used example makes me suspicious of a mark with no clear features.

I have one clear Zoppot and another stamp of interest. It would be nice to figure out what is favored and not. Thanks for the help so far. (Sorry for the bad scans ... still hinged to the page.)

Both, Zoppot (Sopot in Polish) and Oliva (Oliwa in Polish) were within the Danzig Free City boundaries. So, it should be normal to find Danzig stamps with postmarks of these cities.

Michel lists 96 different offices, plus air and train cancels.

I haven't counted for awhile, so I don't know where I am, but I know I'll never find them all. Still fun to look, though.

Just for fun, here is a Danzig-Stutthof train cancel I've posted before:
