Am just feed up with local USPS. Went to local (48080) PO to purchase 6 Rosa Parks Stamps (a PB in my hopes). The "teller" would not sell me them. I asked for a manager. She informed me they could only sell sheets because there was such high demand and "accounting purposes". I asked her what she meant by the accounting purposes and she said she could only sell them in sheets with no further explanation. Did not create a scene and walked out steamed. What a bunch of BS. BTW: first asked for a PB of 6 for the "Puffin's". The teller asked what a Puffin was? Older lady at the next window said "a Bird". Never heard of it was her reply. Told her to look for a stamp with an .86 denomination. She found it and sold me a plate block. Incompetence!

Don't matter to me what they say...if I want 5 stamps of a certain issue they damn well better tear them off..no wonder I beat them to death with glue sticks..i brought in a package with a 5 dollar Bret Harte gluestick that a Canadian friend sent me and the clerk said "Wow thats a real old one" I said not really I use them on priority packages all the time ! No Mercy ! |

OOOO someone hit a nerve! I'm affraid things will just get worse. I am not sure how many subpostal outlets there are in the US but here in Canada a real post office is quickly becoming a thing of the past. No training no knowledge and even sub par customer service compared to being a "normal customer" of the stores that hold these outlets. I sent 2 rather heavy parcels and had approximatly 75% postage pre affixed and the lady had to call a manager to see if this was acceptable. All this with a how dare I hold up the line kinda look as she added for herself. I'm sure we can go on and on with stories but its just gonna get worse. |

Doug,
I went to Detroit main about two months ago to go to the philatelic window. Hadn't been there in 30 years. As I found out, it's been closed for years. The two women behind the counter didn't know people collected stamps anymore. What a system! DD |

Wow! Amazing to hear such stories. Here in Langley BC I frequent all the corporate and private post offices and all of them go out of the way to meet my requirements. Geez I feel privileged... |

I know I can go down the road to Warren for example and I am sure they will break them down for me but I just happened to near the one in SCS. I dont think there are but a few Philatelic windows in the whole of the states anymore.

i have to admit...sometimes I thought I was "holding up the line" but was told...no, its your turn don't worry about it....credit where credit is due ! the clerks are the front line and I know how that feels...a lot of the blame goes higher !! |

My postal clerks are very kind to me and will rummage through the drawers if I ask but I don't ask if it's after noon and there is a line. I'll go into town and to the post office first thing in the morning and they're usually happy to see me coming and the one older lady hold stuff she thinks I'll like. She's so sweet I'll buy them weather I like them or not but that's only once in awhile so I doubt I'm "a mark"...lol Also the one in my hometown (Jersey Shore, PA) is collector friendly and the postmaster is a collector whom I spoke with many of mornings over a hot take-out coffee from the hardware store next door! He once told me that he won a contest through Kellogs cereal Co. and they sent him a fulls set of the Colombians. I didn't believe him and sure enough he called me into his office and there they was! Amazing really. My point is some good P.O.'s left but few and far between. |
