A crowing rooster is featured on the 2.60 kroner value (Facit #1061) of Norway's June 7, 1989 set of two stamps issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of primary schools in the country.

The U.K.'s November 23, 1977 Christmas set of 6 illustratesThe Twelve Days of Christmas. This 7 p stamp (SG #1044) from the set shows "three French hens."

Here is the 11 1/2 p value (SG #1106) from the U.K.'s November 21, 1979 Christmas set of five stamps. A rooster can be seen in front of The Nativity image.

On October 3, 1967 Germany issued a set of four semi-postal charity stamps featuring scenes from the Brothers Grimm fairytale Frau Holle. The two high values (Mi #s 540-1) of this set, shown here, feature a rooster.

From wikipedia, "The tale was published by the Brothers Grimm in the first edition of Kinder- und Hausmaerchen Eng.: Children's and House Fairytales, published in 1812...Some details were added in the second edition (1819), most notably rooster's greetings."

Here is Finland's March 27, 1992 3.50 markka "Healthy Brains" stamp (Facit #65). So, is the man thinking about his pet chicken, or maybe the fried, baked, or barbecued variety?

This 12c +9c value (Sc #B371) of the Netherlands is from the November 16, 1962 Child Welfare set of five. A girl feeding chickens is shown.

On December 25, 1951 Japan issued this 5 yen stamp (Sc #513) as a part of its 1950-1 "Flora, Fauna and National Treasures" definitive series. Stamp depicts a long-tailed cock of Tosa, or Onagadori.

From wikipedia, "It was bred in the 17th century in Kochi Prefecture, on Shikoku Island in southern Japan, and was designated a Japanese National Natural Treasure in 1952."

This August 6, 1983 value (Mi #2821) of the DDR is from a set of five, 50 pf "city arms" stamps. Stamp depicts the arms of Frankfurt a. d. Oder, Brandenburg.

From heraldry-wiki.com, "the meaning or origin of the rooster is not clear, it may be simply a symbol of watchfulness...The whole composition already appears on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1294."

On November 9, 1993 Japan issued this 62 yen stamp (Sc #2217) depicting Kazan Watanabe as a part of its Men of Culture series, and commemorating his birth bicentenary. Watanabe (1793-1841) was a painter, scholar and statesman member of the samurai class. Stamp depicts a self-portrait and a detail from Watanabe's hanging scroll Chickens and Flowers.
