Looking For An Endless Quest ? 1939 Worlds Fair !

I saw this on ebay last year and just had to add it to the collection. With Delf Norona sending this to George Turner, as you noted two of the noted names of twentieth century philately, it just had to be added to the collection.

This is a bit of a mystery to me. There was a large Post Office facility on the fairgrounds, so it seems likely that is where the cover originated. The postmark is just a couple of weeks prior to the end of the fair, which ran from April 30, 1939 through October 27, 1940. It is not a FDC, the Samuel F.B. Morse stamp being issued on October 7, 1940 so I assume it was just something made up as a souvenir. Might it have gone through the mails to Mr. Schramm who's address is shown on the back? Any thoughts?

And if you want to add to your list of "one day maybe" covers for these exhibitions you would need to save up a very big pile of money and buy a set of the 38 Zeppelin covers to and from all of the stops on the 1933 Century of Progress flight by the Graf Zeppelin. These were flown between October 14 and December 2, 1933. And for a very modest amount of money there was a famous flight related to the 1939 World's Fair. Pan American Airways flew one of its giant flying boats, the Yankee Clipper, on the first trans-Atlantic flight in an airliner. It flew from Port Washington, New York the short distance over to the fair grounds where they buzzed the place to the delight of the people at the fair on Saturday, May 20, 1939. From there they turned back eastward and proceeded on Pan Am's first trans-Atlantic flight. The Clipper flew to on its way to France via the Azores and then Portugal.

Any thoughts about this cover? It was posted in Columbus Ohio 2 months prior to the opening of the "Century of Progress" worlds fair in Chicago on May 27, 1933, apparently for mailing private correspondence as it was postmarked in Dublin OH. There are references to both Edgar E. Parker and Prof. W. B. Elden in response to Google searches.

The Dublin, Ohio cover is an example of an advertising cover for the 1933 fair. Events such as the fair or the Air Races or many other big events often had such advertising covers that were made up by some of the event's sponsors for the purpose of generating advance buzz and interest in the event. These were in addition to newspaper articles and posters and radio show advertising and whatever other ways were available to the sponsors to get folks excited and bring them to the event.
