Posted this under another thread that I started but did not receive any responses I guess as the title for the thread was a bit off.

Sorry for the double post.

So had some more Old Canadian stamps come in the mail:

The first picture is of two 6 cent queens.

The one on the left is the one I posted earlier in another thread and the one on the right is newly acquired. The colour looks red brown but I could do for some help. Is the one on the right larger? Or am I conjuring up images in my head. Is this a common phenomenon?

Now I also acquired some 1 cent Queen Vics. Again 3 out of these 4 seem physically larger than one of them. I am pretty sure they are all small queens and probably the smaller one has shrunk or something?

I am very new to stamp collecting and have little to no knowledge of the factors that can effect stamp size. Also, I am certain they should be Small Queens as the 1 Cent Large Queens are Reddish brown?

Thanks for your help.

It does look larger. I don't know much about Canadian stamps. The left one looks red brown. What are the perfs on the left one? They don't look perf 12.

You really need to use a scanner, not a camera/phone. The small queens are complicated enough and need hi-resolution scans, 600dpi or greater.

A nice web site to explain the Small Queens colours and printings:
http://www.canadianpsgb.org.uk/small_queens.html

I posted on the previously mentioned thead about the size and looks.

Search on ebay also for canada large or small andd look for the differences around the edges.

You need to compare the size of the design, not the stamp. The colors listed for the 6˘ Brown are dark Brown and red Brown for the Montreal and Ottawa printings.

Stallzzer is right, the erratic line perforation machine of the times make considerable variances in the "perf to perf" size of the small queens.

for the 6 cents..large..the wording "six cents" will be flat. On the small it will be arched. You have 2 small queens for the 6 cents. And for the 1 cent. for the large there will be the number "1" at the top between canada and postage.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Bill - They are all perf 12. I will recheck, just locked it up. If I find they are not I will repost.

BC - Your right, Scanner helps a lot more, just can't afford one at the moment. I will have to wait I guess.

Stallzer - Thanks, it occured to me that the images seemed the same size, although the entire stamp sizes were different.

Stampnut - Thanks for the input, I knew the 6 cents large queen should have "six cents" but I didn't know that the 1 cent between Canada Postage is a characteristic for the 1 Cent Large queen.

Thanks again for all the help.

Now I am truly afraid to venture into this.

Edit: Puzzler, thank you for the link.
