A very common item, 5 or 6 denominations in this design; not in Scott

Yes, a revenue stamp & quite common. Various shades are known for these as well.

Interesting point - do we normally refer to Telegraph stamps as "revenues"? They are not listed with revenues in the U.S. Scott Specialized, they have their own section, with "T" numbers.

No, these are not revenues. They paid for a service rather than a tax.

What you say is true nigel. But what gets me is that so many catalgues that list revenue stamps (and on a continuous basis) include the "Telegraph' stamps under that umbrella (?)

One case in point is the Van Dam catalogue for Canadian revenues. They list telegraph stamps from the different provinces and yet, as the title on the cover of the catalogue states, it is a 'revenue' catalogue.

Whereas Gibbons has started listing Telegraphs, after the regular postage stamps, in the Commonwealth catalogue. I don't see any Canadian Telegraphs listed though: perhaps they'll come in time.
