I would respectfully ask for some help on the I.D. of this stamp.
Looks a bit like Argentina, Scott 54 (A29) but missing some features.
Possible forgery??
Thanks for your assistance.
Chuck

I think it's been immersed in water for a L-O-N-G time, at some point.

I believe the 12c numeral/envelope/posthorn with colored lettering is an essay. I've never been able to confirm that from another source, so don't hold me to that. If anyone can confirm, or better yet, provide a link or printed reference citation, I would appreciate it.

OK, I think I found a confirmation and clarification. It's a unadopted proof. Taken from the following webpage http://www.perforations.net/south-a...c-1882-1884/

There is nothing about this stamp in my Argentina catalogue (which is not as specialized as I hoped it would be), but I found out that this is a proof made after the original "envelope" design was released in order to prove that Jacobson & Co. (a local Argentinian printer) could print stamps of the same quality as the ones that were made in London by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co.

I thought this proof had been discussed here before, but unfortunately I cannot find it anymore. Perhaps it was on a different site.
