Looks like Wtmk 33, which in my in-expert opinion should make it Scott #160. Scott does say 159 - 172 were printed in a variety of shades. Value about 1 - 2 bucks. regards, yakboomer. |

Perhaps I misunderstood the above post.
The watermark shown in cdnum's pic appears reversed because it is being viewed from the back of the stamp. However, the actual watermark orientation is properly described as normal, not reversed.
In the Stanley Gibbons catalog, the watermarks are pictured as if viewed from the front of the stamp.
The watermark picture shown by cdnum is as viewed from the back of the stamp. It shows a reversed GvR, which means it is normal orientation, not reversed.
The Scott catalog pictures watermark as viewed from the back of the stamp. This is why all the watermark images in Scott are mirror images. So what you see in the watermark tray will match what is pictured in Scott. |

This issue of George V stamps comes in a multitude (and I mean multitude) of shades. If you look at the SG Specialised. you will readily see this. I have tried to collect as many shades as I can, but it is almost a hopeless task. There are two series of these stamps, differing in watermark.
The first issued series has the most shades, partially caused by the lack of ink quality during the First World War. The colors were all over the place. Some of the shades can be very pricey. |

Quote: Add picture to compare WM with normal one at right : And they are the same. The "G" is on the right in both watermark pictures. Hence, both stamps have a watermark in the normal orientation. |

Hi Khj,
I think WM are in the normal orientation too. Maybe Scotzm can explain what he said before.
Thank you!

Simply that I believed I saw the G first then the R under the crown which would mean reversed. At the moment I have one eye covered due to cataract op... the other has "floaters" so I'm not at my best. Time to get the other eye done perhaps which I'm told will bring benefits greater even than synchronized swimming. |

Hi Scotzm,
For me WM is a nightmare :-). They are extremely difficult to see on lot of stamps.
Take care about your eyes.
Thank you!
