and were cut out at the counter in the post office by the agent/clerk. The agent would cut rectangular or not, depending on ????? The Michel catalogue lists the rectangular specimens at about 20 times the price of the non-rectangular ones. The stamps are hence the same, only the manner of cutting them out of the sheet is different.

no, I've got only the single stamp. The pair was shown in the thread on the German forum to demonstrate how the stamps on the sheet looked like.

Is the top one possibly the smallest stamp of all time? [I have a couple and know they are actually smaller than your image]

I don't think so. The Mecklenburg is about 12 x 12 mm, the smallest stamp know of is the Bolivar (7 x 11 mm) shown here:

One of my few Tongan covers with a rather large round 15/- stamp.
These are quite rare on covers.
