An interesting read for Canadian stamp collectors:

(It sounds like Canada Post has a much better approach to this than the US Postal Service does with its Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee.)

I don't think so.

I my opinion this Canada Post Stamp Advisory Committee is made up of a bunch of politically correct hacks.

Back in 2009 I contacted Jim Phillips, Director, Stamp Services Canada Post.
I asked why there was no stamp for the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Quebec (Battle of the Plains of Abraham).

The results of this battle (English victory over French forces)was basically the beginning of Canada as we know it today, therefore a very important event in our history whether one likes it or not.

Phillips emailed me a standard reply stating that only so many subjects can be featured on a stamp every year and the Stamp Advisory Committee tries to get a balance of worthy subjects, blah, blah, blah.

So its ok to come out with a never ending flood of Chinese New Year stamps or a Raoul Wallenberg (what has he got to do with Canada ?)stamp but ignore one of the most momentous events in Canadian history.

What a bunch of PC crock. Why are we letting the politicians get away with this crap?

Perhaps if there were good paintings available for historical events available at a reasonable price (what price good publicity for Canada?) we would see more stamps made of important events.

Just to look around on the internet, let alone art galleries, anyone can see vast quantities of really good art. I do not think that the piece needs international recognition to be considered able to be appreciated by most Canadians, whether they themselves can aford it or not.

I totally enjoyed the entries for the Mental Health semi-postal charity stamps of couple years ago, where citizens could vote their preference of the artwork.

We should all have more input into what is shown to the world about Our Canada.

Puzzler, I agree 100% but how can we the people get them to listen to us?

The politicians and the bureaucrats either ignore you or give you a bunch of gibberish doubletalk.

Sometimes I think we're closer to Orwell's Nineteen Eighty Four than we realize.

What synchronicity - I was thinking about this last night. My question is, does anyone know if businesses pay to get their names on stamps, e.g. Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, etc? If not that's a lot of free advertising, and for something that seems less emblematic of Canada than some other subjects. The anniversary of the founding of a retail outlet? Surely we can do better than that. And if businesses do pay for the honour, that seems pretty tacky to me. It's definitely not why I collect stamps.
