Hi,

I'm back to stamp collecting after 30 years, and having a fantastic time. My first project is to complete a 1950 Henri Thiaude album that my dad started (and soon abandoned) when he was 10. I'm adding about five stamps each week, so it will be some time before the album's 146 pages are filled ....

I've been enjoying reading the forum posts. Here is my very first: I've noticed that some of the Thiaude pages have spots for more than one color variety of a given stamp, something that is not reflected in the 2009 Scott catalog I have. For instance, the scan below shows that the 1c Type Mercure can be brun, brun clair, and brun-noir. In Scott, I see only one (353). Same for numerous others.

Will these show up in a more specialized catalog?

Any insights you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

The Maury (French) Catalog is e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y specialized and not too high-priced. It has two drawbacks, at least the first edition did -- the print is very small, and the two volumes were printed in Greece, which resulted in a rotten job with smeared ink, wrinkled pages, loose bindings within a year, and a dozen other quality control problems.

I don't know who prints them now, but you might be able to see sample pages on Amazon. Maury sort of folds Yvert & Tellier and Ceres into one exceedingly complicated catalog, with considerable attention paid to covers and postal history. I do not know if the prices (in Euros) are considered realistic.

I find the print quality fine on the 2012 edition. It really is the most detailed of the general catalogues and reasonably priced.

Thanks! This is the one, right?

They seem to have gone from two volumes (2009) to one (2012).

Welcome to the forum

That is a good price composer. My only fear now though is the postage costs from the source to Canada
