I have indentified the stamp below as Michel PK 68. However, I can't find any info on the over print. For some reason the image got rotated. Hopefully someone can still help, even with the inverted image. If not, lmk and I'll try to get a new picture up. Thanks!

The stamp has been overprinted so that it is both re-valued and also designated as an official ("SERVICE") stamp.
I don't have the Michel catalog handy. Look under the Pakistan section that lists official stamps and you should be able to find it. |

Pakistan overprints have been discussed on several other forums. Apparently there were tens of thousands of "local" handstamped overprints (on Pakistani stamps) when East Pakistan became Bangladesh, and due to stamp shortages, both urban and rural postmasters were told to improvise, whatever it took to keep the mail moving. Very few "records" were kept. The period of "random" overprints lasted from March 26, 1971 to April 30, 1973. There are catalogs for these overprints, but I've never seen a copy.
Holding the cover in your hand is [sometimes] proof that a certain font, color, and size of handstamp was used in a certain town during a certain period. Counterfeits exist. |

In the 2006 Michel, it is Pakistan #69(1961) under the Dienstmarken (official stamps) section. I only see one variety listed.
In the Scott catalog, it lists 2 overprint varieties, Type c (1957 style SERVICE overprint) and Type b (1954 style SERVICE overprint). It looks like Michel only lists the Scott Type c.
For Scott, the catalog numbers would be Pakistan O67, type c Pakistan O67a, type b
I cannot tell from your pic which overprint type you have. You can determine yourself by looking at the 1954 and 1957 overprints in your Michel. |

So am I gathering correctly that this is, as expected, a fairly common stamp? |

The picture is too blurry (and sideways) for me to say absolutely. I can't even tell if your stamp is mint or used.
I'm just saying it looks like either Pakistan O67(20c,20c) or O67a($3,#1.25) in the 2011 Scott catalog (values for MNH,used), which are relatively common stamps.
HOWEVER, I did notice that your "1 PAISA" surcharge appears crooked. Maybe that is something? Need someone more knowledgeable with Pakistani stamps to chime. Probably also need a much more clearer and upright picture. |
