I've not seen a list on the net but the Maury catalogue is comprehensive.
As others have mentioned it really is worth it and reasonably priced for so much information.

Lovely SON

I'm really gonna have to give serious consideration to that Maury catalog.

My France adventure just got extended a bit.

Whereas all the off paper stamps shown previously I acquired a few years ago from a guy at a local flea market, I just found this LARGE manilla envelope bulging with on paper stamps from about the same era. These I've had for well over 30 years. I also have similar envelopes filled with Germany, G.B., Belgium, Canada and a few others. I just hope I live long enough to get through them all!

Here is an example which should give you an idea of the level of detail.

had to edit the title of this topic to include "post classic" since a lot of what I am going to be dealing with are 40's and 50's issues and I don't think qualify as "classics".
I'm kind of at a standstill right now. I have all of my French stamps sorted into types at least, but until I get some extra funds to get that catalog I really won't know what I'm looking at.

I've picked out some more neat (at least to me) cancels which I will scan and post.

Has it really been 5 years since I made this post? Wow!
Well, I've FINALLY gotten around to sorting my France stamps and mounting them on Steiner pages, along with some custom, Steiner-esque pages I had to make.

Right now I am working on the Sower issues, trying to identify all the various types, according to the Maury catalog.
Oh yeah, I FINALLY have a Maury catalog as well, after 5 years.

Here is a decent "find" I made, while sorting the 15c green, lined Sowers. It's a type VI. The identifiers are all there:

1 - 4 shade lines in the arm
2 - The stamp is noticeably taller than the other types (check the trimmed stamp I made to overlay for comparison.)
3 - The characteristic, guillotined perforations, which sow as flat tips, rather than ragged tips from tearing the stamps apart.

Which is accepted as the definitive French catalogue, Maury or Yvert & Tellier? Or do they maintain the same numbering system between them? Obviously I have neither, but am considering getting the Maury.

Yvert is the standard catalogue, and is generally referred to by dealers/auctioneers. Maury is more detailed, and the one to buy. Numbering is basically the same. Maury shows numbering variations from other catalogues where they occur.

Thanks Geoff. Numbering differences from other catalogues where that occurs....what a brilliant idea, I wish they all had that feature.

Basically from Yvert, with which they clearly have an agreement, but aslo from others - Delay, Ceres etc - that have, I think, been subsumed by Maury.

Some great links perf12, thanks. I knew of one of them, but not the others.
This is one of the pages I relied on, besides the Maury catalog.
https://worldstampsproject.org/france-1900-1940/

Also, a few threads from a "rival" stamp forum.

I have never had a YT catalog, so I cannot compare it to the Maury. But, I can say the Maury is a very good catalog, with a ton of specialized information, and at just over $32 shipped, it's almost a steal.

Robbo59 - Absolutely! Actually, it more than paid for the Maury AND the French accumulation that the stamp came from.
