Good evening friends! Sorting through a lot of older spanish stamps and I've come across various sequenced numbers on the backs of several. I don't know the story behind the numbers and humbly ask for your knowledge to help fill me in on reason for their existance.Thanks! Jonathan

They were audit numbers applied by the Spanish post office.

We do the same thing here in the States. On these huge rolls of 3000 stamps you need help in counting how many there are left!

Agree with Geoff,
Control numbers from the Spanish Post.
Numbers are repeated and mean little to the collector.

I once found something like C000-000 and thought I had won lotto.
subsequently finding they were common.
