No way to really tell for sure, but I suspect it was meant to read:

Rev. Jh. Smith Gordon (as in Jeremiah Smith Gordon, with "Jh." an abbreviation for "Jeremiah").

The previously posted biography fits both in content, location and date, and given how small the area was in overall population, it would be hard to identify any others from that period with a similar name.

It's written as "Rev. J. Smith Gordon". It was the type of font and poor sellers scan along with the oxidized ink over time that was the major issues, but wt1 nailed it! Thanks again!

I have a number of relatives from Waynesboro, PA Franklin County. None with the name Smith or Gordon. Franklin County borders Maryland in south central PA rather than SW PA.

Waynesboro, PA is my hometown and I still have a lot of family and friends who live there. Interesting to see this cover.
