Hey guys and gals let's go globetrotting and see some of your collections from around the world. I'd love to see how many different countries we can come up with.

I think it would be great also to have small write ups on the countries that either don't exist anymore or are not well known.

I promiss I'll get my scanner working again and add some of mine.

Dianne

Great Topic Dianne

Oubangui-Chari, or Ubangi-Shari, was a French territory in central Africa which later became the independent country of the Central African Republic on August 13, 1960. It followed the establishment of the Bangui outpost in 1889, and was named in 1894.

The French did not establish a colonial administration until 1903, upon defeating Egyptian forces (the territory was claimed by the Egyptian Sultan). The Oubangui-Chari territory was merged with the Chad colony in 1906. In 1910, it became one of four territories of the Federation of French Equatorial Africa, (with Chad, Middle Congo, and Gabon), initially with Chad as "Oubangi-Chari-Tchad", and made into an autonomous civilian colony in 1915. Chad was separated in 1920.

WONDERLAND.

Wonderland is wherever you want it to be and whatever you want it to be.
It is a place for all ages and everyone is invited. It is a place to dream, to see the unthinkable, without mailce or anger.
It is a place to love and cherish, to make whoopy, to sing and to dance.
It is a place to find White rabbits, to drink Tea and enrage a queen.
It is sensible and crazy all in one breath.

It is a land of Wonders.
It is Wonderland.

It is a place with a yearly Botanical Congress....

It is a place where you can drink as much tea as you like...if you can find a seat......

If you argue you have to pay a fine, but this rarely happens.

Why, even the Military look silly and are even allowed to drink tea whilst on duty....

But they do have Stamp Exhibitions........

....and issue their own definitives of far greater stature than Machins or Posthorns......

It is also a place of lovely people where you can make friends just like you......

and you can even mourn your loved ones in peace....

Of course, you can have a bit of a gamble if you wish. A spot of Pontoon or Rummy maybe.

But the Queen of the Land is very angry sometimes and it is clear she models herself on the late, great Henry VIII....

So if you do get caught having a flutter you could end up in the tower.....

But all in all, it is an amazing place to visit and I highly recommend it.
It will never have a patch on Gilligan's Island, Osso Bucco or The Republik Melaku Selatan....why it won't even be as sane as Ubanghi Chari. But it will be a dreamland for all, a place to forget; to rest and to wonder.

This is Wonderland.

Londonbus1.....I just don't know where it is?

Twinkle, twinkle little bat,
How I wonder what you're at,
Up above the world you fly,
Like a tea tray in the sky.

HELIGOLAND

An island in the north sea near the northern coast of Germany,

Great Britain ceded Heligoland to Germany in 1890. It became part of Schleswig-Holstein province. Stamps of Heligoland were superseded by those of the German Empire.

Above info from the Scott catalog
