Holland has issued a number of ongoing sets in the last couple of years which Scott hasn't catalogued . One set has buildings , another birds etc all with the denomination of 1 . What seems to be the problem with these issues . Thanks Bernie
Bernie, I do not have any idea why Scott does what. But the "1" on the Dutch stamps is the same ( almost ) as some of the other European stamps I have seen lately. It means these stamps are good for a certain service. Like First Class for instance. Hopefully a Dutch member of this forum can give a bit better info!
The pictures show Personalised Stamps (personal in dutch = Persoonlijke Postzegels). The 1 on the Stamps means Stamp for a Letter or Postcard up to 20 grams. For a Letter of 50 grams you need 2 Stamps. There are 2 types of Personalised Stamps. 1 the Stamps made by POSTNL, the Postorganisation and 2 the real Personalised Stamps. The real Personalised Stamps are in different catagories Companies make Stamps, Organisations make Stamps etc. and Persons make Stamps, the Stamps made by Persons are the real modern decentralised Issues, they are the most wanted. (depending on the topic/design).
It seems that Catalogues are not the books of reference that they once were. I cant speak to Netherlands. But in the case of Ireland, a stamp was issued in 2014 and withdrawn after ten minute Stamps were sold and some legitimately posted but it has not appeared in Gibbons catalogue. Likewise Gibbons DO list Irish Stamps on a Roll (SOAR) but earlier this year started listing them seperately as Machine labels. a few months ago I sent some SOAR to a collector (I dont trade but he was insistent) and I got an angry email saying these were not stamps as they are not listed by Scott. And last year and this year "Elf on the Shelf" stamp was issued but not catalogued. I admit I was always too respectful of the major catalogues. If it is listed...its a stamp. If its unlisted...its not a stamp. But that was a kinda tyranny and I feel its liberating not to be overly influenced by the catalogues. Stamps like the Netherlands "1" are actually very useful (like Irish "N" National and "W" Worldwide) as they can be used after postal rates go up.
An inland letter up to 20 grammes (national tariff "1") costs € 0.91 (2020 tariff). The persoonlijke postzegelvellen sell above face value. These are purely philatelic issues.
Stanley Gibbons does not to list stamps issued over face value. It does not fully keep to its policy, but they do not assign full catalogue listing to such issues. Maybe Scott has a similar policy.

Should you want to get rid of your SOAR's send me a PM!
