It was a very nice day.

I met member Seahorse and another philatelic buddy Ralph [catalogue producer] for a few hours of stamp chat and Exhibit viewing.

Saw some amazing items the best of which was a quite breathtaking collection of Lundy, a USA exhibit most likely from a member of the LCC [Lundy Collectors Club]. Sadly he was not available for questions.

Of course, there was much more. Great sections of Palestine, The Interim Period, Cyprus and Thematics to name but a few.

There was a great collection of early to middle Iranian stamps with some superb Revolutionary issues of the 1920's.
Here is a Gilan Issue of 1921. Breathtaking !

Last but by no means least, there was a unique item the likes of which I will never see again !
During the war of Independence in Israel, some areas were cut off from the rest of the country and a few towns issued their own stamps without permission from the fledgling governement.
These stamps are scarce, in some cases rare.
One such town was Rishon-Le-Zion who issued a stamp depicting an armoured Car and the service became known locally as the armoured car service !
http://interimpost.wikia.com/wiki/Besieged_RishonOn display was a reconstructed sheet each stamp being signed by those who had connections with the issue. How the owner of the display managed that one was beyond me. Totally amazing. He also showed some original artwork.
I fell in love !

Nice weather inside the hall and well lit. The Post Office stand was well-manned and queues were non-existent.
A good day all-round. Avi [Seahorse] even got to work on a stand for a time, while the owner popped out for some nicotine refreshment !

Prizes for the winning entries.......

That's it for now. Later or tomorrow, some scans of some special items including the Imperf sheet I wrote about in an earlier post, and two stunning sheets for my collection which I got surprisingly cheap !
