One more thing...

I am seriously considering getting my grandchildren Worldwide stamp albums along with some kiloware for Christmas as one of their presents. The youngest is 5 and the oldest is 10. I would have to tailor it to their ages, but as I have stated before, that's how I learned geography, history, the Presidents and other important people and politics when I was that age! I also think the idea of teaching them how to mail a letter is a fantastic idea! I can also remember being in school, and having the teacher connect us with "pen pals" from other countries! I was paired up with a strikingly beautiful young girl from Argentina! (added benefit!) Obviously, I saved the covers, which have since been lost to the ages, but not only did I receive the benefits of the covers, but also the exchange of cultural information! That's something no school nor teacher, can teach!

Just bumping this thread with some trivia. I read today, in a review of a biography of Bernard Shaw, that, in the course of an admittedly long and verbose life, he wrote a quarter of a million letters and postcards.

Interesting. I do not think that letter writing is declining, only the format. My email app shows that I have sent 8,455 personal emails (business emails is several times larger than that) since I archive older emails this covers only the last five years. Incoming emails in the same period is well over 17,000.

You or I would. Whereas my daughter, who's in her mid-'20s, uses e-mail almost exclusively for work or for replying to her old man's communications. Her exchanges with friends are ordinarily by text message, which doesn't exist in my world.

I cannot imagine sending a condolences letter or similar via email. Seems to lack any personal touch.

It happens all the time = look at Facebook and not isolated to teenagers. You see it on this forum and other forums too.

Funeral Homes has blogs for funerals where you can share comments about the dearly departed. They will package these up and provide to family.
