First of all, what is a re-entry? When making the plates, they rocked in the image using a transfer roller of hardened steel into the softer steel of the plates. When they needed to fix one of these impressions, they smoothed out the spot and "re-entered" the image. If the erasure was incomplete, you can see a bit of the prior image showing through. These are some interesting recent additions: First, the 12.5 cent (Scott/Unitrade 18) Note the vertical lines in the E (first close-up) and between the frame lines in the top right corner)

Chip, can you explain to those of us not familiar with the re-entries, what we are seeing on the 17¢ & the Large Queen ?
Thanks |

On the first closeup on the Large Queen I see doubling of the engraved lines in the ornaments. In the second Large Queen closeup, the bottom frame line is doubled.
I agree the 17 cent stamp re-entry is harder to detect. There are a number of things I think I see that may be indicative of a re-entry: - The "light dot" on the inner bold frame - There appears to be some doubling in the letters "s" "t" amd "g" especially notable in the lower loop of the letter G. There is a "spike" of white coming off the lower curve of the letter "s".

In your scan of the SC 19 - 17 cent blue, there's also a re-entry down the left frame from the top left corner to the first "A" of "CANADA", known as SC 19ii.
The stamp is Position 100. |

BlackJag: Yes it does, and yes it is. I forgot to post that enlargement. Thanks for pointing it out - I added it to the post above.
(additional side note - the 12.5c is position 94 and is Unitrade number 18iv) |
