Getting To Place My First Order With Global Stamps...

I haven't placed an order with Global Stamps in well over 15 years. But it's time to order some new mounts, and the price can't be beat.

Problem is, when I check the web site, the form they want me to enter is not a secure connection. And I don't want to enter my credit card number on a web page that's going to submit it in clear text...

How do you order from Global? Do you phone it in?

I've ordered from Vance many times in the not too distant past. I send my order via his order form and then separately call him with my credit card. On the last few orders, I just request that he use the same credit card.

He packs the mounts well and always posts (using real postage stamps!) each order in a timely manner.

At work the site didn't come up as https, at home it did. I will place my order tomorrow.

Maybe too late now but I use the link below to get my clear mounts. It say seconds but I don't see a whole lot of difference.
Beats the heck out of Global Stamps' price me thinks.

I'm checking the site out now. Pretty good pricing. I just hate the way Showgard packages mounts. But the price is kind of hard to beat. I assume this is the same guy that always sells on ebay.

i received a letter from him today..offering a 10 percent discount if you mention "club" ...i am not shopping for any mounts at present but see if you can get the additional 10 percent !!

Ok , off to order. I just wish Showgard made a 26 mm mount.

Ended up splitting the order between showgardseconds and global. Global with shipping was cheaper than the sizes I needed that weren't seconds on showgardseconds.

To further agonize over my purchasing decision, here are some numbers:

I ordered the following mount sizes from showgardseconds: 25, 41, 63. My order total was $28.75+$3.50 shipping for a total of $32.25

If I order the same quantities from global: ($5.50 x 2) + ($5.50 x2) + ($6.50 x 2) you get $35.00, so your shipping is free.

So I saved $2.75, which I lost when I placed my Global Stamps order for 26 and 181, and had to pay $3.00 in shipping.

Shipping charges make all the difference. As long as you're ordering over $25.00 in mounts, Vance at Global Stamps is always going to be a better deal.

I need to worry far less about this stuff and just go mount some stamps!

I buy for Global prices (maybe 50 cents more) at my local dealer on my way home from work. No postage. :D

I should add that what I buy is the Showgard mounts.

The stamp store near me sells Showgard at full retail, and sells stamps at Brookmann catalog value, which, at times, can be higher than Mystic.

The order from Showgardseconds.com came in today. Pretty impressive, since I placed the order on Thursday night around midnight.

And underneath that envelope, was the package from Global Stamps, which got wet sadly...

The 182mm mounts I ordered got a little wet, since the packaging was paper instead of plastic for some reason. But it looks like the glue on the back of the mount did not activate.

Just to let others know, the word "club" added to the comments worked, and he took 10% off the order and I got a partial Paypal refund. Impressive.
