Yes, I have used them and have bought one of their kiloware assortments. They contain a higher percentage of larger mounts than I really needed, so I have mostly those left. I have not tried to trim them down.
Was there any particular question that you had about them? |

I use Hawid mounts. Only use top loading mounts. Do not put your MNH stamps in split back mounts. |

Over time moisture from the mount (if you're not careful) can migrate to the back of the stamp. I'd rather not take that chance. |

All I use are split back mounts - and I am moving some from my US collection into a third album .. never had any trouble. But, yes, I can see if you are not careful you could have a few problems. |

I have been using split back mounts consistently since 1985, Scott, Prinz and Showgard. I own more than 1 million mint, never hinged stamps. There has been no damage in 28 years. |

I have used several types of mounts over the past many years (including split backs) and I never had any trouble either. They're not moisture proof seals...they are not supposed to keep moisture out (any type mount)...they are just a reasonable non-hinge method for mounting stamps. Split back mounts seem like they work well, are inexpensive, and are easy to use. I'll continue to use them. By the way...the old Crystal Mounts have been given a bad name recently; mostly charging that they were made with acid and may ruin stamps over a number of years. Many of my stamps have been in Crystal Mounts for 50 years without showing any sign of trouble. That reputation seems to have been at best overblown and at worst misinterpreted. They aren't made any more, so I guess nobody has to worry about it from here on out. |

A lot may depend upon storage of the stamp album(s) as to whether or not the Crystal Mounts may deteriorate over time. I have personally experienced the old Crystal Mounts yellowing, warping and have removed the stamps to safer mounts or stockbook pages as a precaution. While you may have had relatively good success with Crystal Mounts, the majority of collectors have not, therefore most will agree it is better to be safe than sorry. As you have stated, Crystal Mounts aren't made anymore, so it becomes a moot point for modern day collectors; however, for those older albums that may still contain stamps in Crystal Mounts, most collectors are well advised to remove them and re-mount them into the safer stamp mount products that are on the market today. http://johnapfelbaum.blogspot.com/2...-mounts.html |
