Hi I've been going through some of my Canada stamps found these two. Is It an error or has the gold just worn off as I can see the black outline of the word canada at the right angle. Would love some opinions. Thanks.
Got up today and looked under a microscope with my mate and we can now both see faint bits of gold so must have rubbed off but strangely no scratches or wear around or on the area.
I don't know the specifics of the process, but I know it is possible to remove the gold printing somehow. There have been a number of issues worldwide that have been sold as printing errors that turned out to be fakes having had the gold printing removed.
I have two of the Autumn Leafs stamps with the silver removed. Both are VFNH, with the gum looking PO fresh. So whatever process is used, it does not create any noticeable damage to the stamp. Also, to the naked eye you cannot see any of the prior silver printing. It makes me wonder what V.G. Greene uses to determine it authenticity.
This experience resulted in me not purchasing any 'missing' printing stamps without a certificate from a renowned organization.
