I'm sure a few people will be willing to look...
Never know. Maybe you'll catch the bug again. |

We like looking at stamps. If they are old (100 yrs old) we will probably want a good closeup of the stamp. |

Kieran, for best results, and the detail we need, each individual scan should contain no more than 4 rows of 5 stamps; no complete album pages, no piles of stamps with half of them covered up. And ideally, no cell phone pics, although not everyone has a scanner.
When you scan, do not use the entire glass as your "scanning area" and then crop away the excess - that leads to bad results. Set the scan area about 6 inches wide and 5 inches high (for 20 stamps at a time). |

Welcome Kieran,
In some cases, if you have a modern printer connected via a USB, the driver software already has a scanning function built in. Try opening your printer control panel on your PC, then right click on it--and if you see a "Scan Now" you will be in luck. Then basically anything sitting on the cover of the printer (say like you were going to make a copy), will scan and create and image which then you can upload
shot in the dark, but might help |

Kieran -- folks here are willing to help, but don't get your hopes up.
When you were a kid, did you have hundreds of dollars to invest in your stamps? The stamps that most kids can afford aren't likely to escalate in value.
But you might want to start collecting again as an adult. Many of us here (including me) followed that same path.

I know my stamps arnt worth anything, just wanted to know more about them, we lost the scanning software after we moved home and bought a new laptop so it only works with digital display built into it and a memory stick. Soz. |

Ciamar a tha sibh, Kieran? ... well, you have a Gaelic name.
I think you will find plenty of interest in whatever you post here. Your stamps have philatelic worth... as you can see by several responses... if probably not great monetary worth. The worth is in the eye of the beholder... to coin a phrase.

Quote: I know my stamps aren't worth anything Many of us (most of us?) have spent countless hours looking through catalogue-minimum stamps, searching out postmarks, or shades, or other crazy little features. Post up what you have...people will look. We can't help ourselves. |

For Mike33-- Let's say you want to scan a block of stamps. If you put them on the scanner glass, scan them, then crop away 8 inches on the bottom and 5 inches on the side, you get a much worse image than if you SPECIFY A SCAN AREA of say, 3 x 3 inches. The bigger the scan area (for a small object), the less detail you capture. Try it both ways and see. |
