Help Identify Great Britain Stamp

While sorting through an assortment from Great Britain I ran across this stamp:



I would be very interested to know the Scott catalog number if someone can help me.

Hi Brad. I don't have a newer catalogue, but I believe that was one of a series of aerial views of Britain issued for the millenium. I'm sure the experts will correct me.

Look like hedgerows to me.

I have it down for a Great Britain - Regional Issue - Northern Ireland Scott 13 released in 2001.

Ahh, some experts.

Your stamp has white margins. That would make it Northern Ireland #18(14Oct2003) under Great Britain in the Scott catalog. Had there been no white margins, then it would have been #13(6Mar2001).

What do we make of that postmark? Does it simply say 'Northern Ireland'? Seems a bit broad.

that stamp is Sc#18 from northern ireland. I fed your image into SRS ( stamp Recognition Software ) & it found it right away.

If printed by lithography, the stamp is Scott 18. If printed by photogravure, the stamp is Scott 18a. The lithographed stamp was first issued in 2003. It was subsequently reissued in Prestige Booklets in 2007 and 2008. The photogravure stamp was issued on 20 Sep 2007. I don't know of a simple way to tell a Scott 18 from a Scott 18a. However, there is a more complicated way, but that involves determining certain characteristics of the phosphor bands.

Magnification. And a bit of study.

Look at several stamps printed by different, but known, printing methods under at least 10x magnification, more if possible, and the characteristics of the various printing methods start to become evident. After a while you won't need magnification for many of the determinations.

A colleague gave me two tins of stamps, with the direction.........

"Take what you want, but if there is anything of value let me know"

Honouring his trust, I found these two, the only pair in a grungy lot,
you know the situation, lots of Machins, curled rusty stamps, hairs etc

A couple of Scott 312's (QEll £1 intense black) fairly knocked around.

Can any GB specialists advise a current value (if any) on these two please?

The Army Official overprinted stamp is SG O49, and the SOTW 2017 catalogue shows £2.25 for a used copy.

Scott is wanting in this regard, shows only the 6d value.

2d Blue is SG45 (Thick lines) Value £14 for a fine used,
this one space filler.

Regarding the original post, I always thought Northern Ireland Regional stamps had the "red hand" symbol (below). That Farmer's Field stamp does not have it. It looks like any other G.B. stamp.

Great Britain stopped releasing Machins for the individual "countries" (Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales) quite a few years ago. They now issue small size definitive stamps depicting something related to the country: Linen, Parian China, Giants Causeway and Farm Fields for Northern Ireland; Thistle, Tartan, Lion Rampant and Flag of Scotland for Scotland; Daffodil, Prince of Wales Feathers, Dragon and Leek for Wales. Also, England has been added. England stamps depict Oak Tree, Tudor Rose, Crowned Lion and Three Lions. There may be other designs as well.
