Beautiful Barb, absolutely beautiful. You have such stunning covers. Quote: it seems that its a collection of the special postmarks from these events. Does anybody know if there are a demand for items like this?
There is a place and demand for everything Yobo. I would love to see some scans if you can during your next 'scanning session'. This little gem has eluded me for ages. I posted the regular issue last January [way back on page 2 or 3 I think]. This is the scarcer Presentation edition, overprinted 'SPECIMEN' by Lithography. I had never previously seen one. British Philatelic Exhibition 1984. To be continued..... Londonbus1 |

I have posted one of these on my sales thread, but will put it here as the other one will be deleted later. 1979 Stampex. A miniature sheet was printed by The House Of Questa in Lithography to commemorate the Centenary of the Death of Sir Rowland Hill. It was sold at the entrance and part of the cost went towards the upcoming 1980 International Exhibition. A small number were overprinted 'SPECIMEN' [sloping left] by Lithography and these were used for presentation purposes. Exact number not known, but most of these special issues were in no more than 500, some much less. I have never seen one before, and now I have seen TWO ! Already dreaming of another show |

This sheet has eluded me for years. A long, long search has finally come to an end. 1981 British Philatelic Exhibition Presentation sheet in Black. Only 750 numbered copies exist. Printed in Typography by Harrison & Sons Ltd, it shows two unadopted designs for the 3d and 4d definitives. [1911] The design celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the much hated Downey Head ! This is the first time I have ever seen this sheet. And now you can see it too ! Londonbus1...."So what", you must be asking. |

Here is one series of Labels produced for the 1913 Universal and International Exposition in Ghent, Belgium. Belgium's first Air Mail service was used during the Exhibition, which ran until the eve of WW1. More to come! Londonbus1 |

I purchased this card about 2 years ago and what makes this stamp (and card) so interesting for me is that the writer of the card is the designer of the stamp - Ralph Dyer. He writes ........."the above seal is the design I made for that event (4th ASDA National Postage Stamp Show - Nov 1952......." It is not officially a 'postcard' as such - more a 'posted' card, because the card has a Ralph Dyer Cinderella stamp. Dyer also states "could not find room in your cover to stick it on......." The ship depicted on the seal is SS United States - a luxury passenger liner built in 1952 for the United States Lines designed to capture the trans-Atlantic speed record.
Built at a cost of $78 million, the ship is the largest ocean liner constructed entirely in the United States, the fastest ocean liner to cross the Atlantic in either direction, and retains in her retirement the Blue Riband given to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in regular service with the record highest speed.
Her construction partially subsidized by the United States government, the ship was designed to allow conversion to a troop carrier should the need have arisen. The United States operated uninterrupted in transatlantic passenger service until 1969; since 1996 she has been docked at Pier 82 on the Delaware River in Philadelphia. |

This doesn't exactly fit the topic, but I wanted to share this somewhere and this thread is the closest match I could find: |
