This looks like a Pre-fold/pre-print E.F.O.? #570. What's your opinion? Since I don't see this stuff on any regular basis I can't be positive but I can provide front & back 1200dpi images for your viewing pleasure...

The more I look at it I believe it may have been just damage from being crease and pressed out again -but then again- the papers surface don't look scuffed or anything? I just wanted to be sure before I throw it in the trash.

I tend to agree with you that it is most likely a paper crease when printed, then pressed out - based on the front image.

A $1 stamp of that era was probably on a sizeable package; I don't think it's an error, just physical damage. The left-hand circle around the "1" looks normal.
