I recently got this cover mostly because of the blue-green postal marking saying "Passed for Export", and because of the nice strip of KGVI with lovely Fort Frances CDS all over it. Oh, and it's registered (basically it hit many of collecting "buttons").

In examining the stamps, I noticed an aberration in the topmost stamp of the strip (or the one furthest to left as placed on the envelope.)
It looks like there was damage to the plate, which was kind of smoothed out, but ended up causing a slight difference in the look of the background.

Here is a picture of the top stamp and the one right below it, for contrast.

For the Ultra High-Res version, it's here"http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3833/...41c19f_o.jpg

What do you guys think? A re-entry? Did someone just buff the plate a little and put it back into service?

Oh, and here is the back of the cover . . .

Looks like Boundary Line and Winnipeg RPO CDS on there. Anyone know how long that RPO line was in service?

Cheers,
Smauggie

Oh, I was also wondering if anyone might have a guess as who the sender was?

Smauggie, before I spotted your arrow my first impression was another spot next to his right eye. It almost looks as smudgy as your spot on the left side of his head. Could it have been a slightly worn plate?

Peter

To be honest I do not know what a worn plate would look like. I would assume that if you are talking about general wear and tear, it would be worn all over, and not just in spots.

Now I could be wrong. I just don't know.

It's not a kiss print, no wiper blade residue, but look carefully at the bottom half of the stamp.
Look at the margins on the 3s the bottom part of the letters in CENTS, and the "V" frameline under the word CENTS. This is likely a transfer - looks a lot like the one Trimble describes (unfortunately he didn't give a plate:position) .

Drew, thanks for the info. When you say Transfer, do you mean like a double-transfer?

Cheers,
Smauggie
