I've come across a booklet of "on approval" stamps from the T.K. Barker Company in San Francisco in (I think) 1947. I'm wondering if we have any history buffs out there who collect this sort of item. It's very cool. Here's a pic.

Roxturpin, I for one would love to see what is in it. I was snickering when I saw the value of the wares inside, $ 1.31! It costs more to mail that little book now! Thank you for the showing! Peter

A quick web search of "T.K. Barker and Company" reveals that they were placing ads in the Boy Scout Publication "Boys Life" as early as 1936 for stamp approval offers. I think the 1930s and 1940s were their highest volume of business, as little can be found about them after that date, although some postcard advertising pieces can be found on ebay as late as 1947 or so.

It must of been exciting back in the 40's and 50's to receive one of those booklets. A kid making 25 cents or 50 cents cutting lawns would have a fun time of matching stamps that are pictured in his album with those in the approval booklet. Just think of all the spaces you could fill with 10 cents or 25 cents worth . AH!! those were the days of getting stamps from countries only a few knew existed.
