Hi,
I've been looking for the perfect Scotts Big Blue albums and have only halfway succeeded. Of course I could by new albums, but they are unlabeled.

Not knocking what others may do, but I don't want to label them with "sticky notes" or tape or the plastic do it yourself labels. What options are out there that are "better"?

Thanks for asking this question. It has been weighing on my mind as well, how to label my albums.

This previous thread talks about this very subject:

Bottom line is there is no "rule", as what works for one may be unacceptable to another. Personally, I still use the Brother Labeler for common labeling of loose leaf binders. If I don't want to damage the binders with labels, I put them into plastic holders as shown at the above link. As for labeling of boxes or glassine envelopes containing stamps, or even Vario pages, there are a number of software programs (even freeware) out there that can accomplish the task. One I have found especially useful is Stamp Tags.

Well, if you can't use "sticky notes" like the rest of us, I guess your best option for something permanent would be

Nah, I'm just kidding. But I confess that most of my albums have post-it notes on the spine because I don't want to use some "sticky" label that will leave a gummy mess on my spines.

So, whatever you decide is "best" will help me too.

I guess what I'm looking for can be best compared to what The Scotts National albums have available to them - "leather like" embossed stickers that affix to the ends of those albums. They blend right in and look like they belong

I use standard address labels. They eventually dry out and begin to fall off. But no big deal to replace every year or two. And I do move pages around, so......... it all works out.

Cleat labels seem to work OK. Another option is dry transfer lettering.

A Brother P-Touch label maker can make nice labels in a variety of fonts, and you can purchase different tapes that will result in colored printing on colored backings...for instance, gold lettering on a black background.

Building on KirkS's idea... how about acid-etching?

:-)

I am not familiar with the Scott albums, BUT, if they are like the Harris Liberty, you could try using a blade and cutting a slit on top of the spine and inserting a paper "label", just like with a regular 3-ring binder.

Yours look great, Bujutsu.

However, it appears you use "see-through" binders that have the clear plastic sleeve on the spine. So your labels will insert into the spine.

For those of use that use traditional stamp albums and/or binders with rounded spines, it's tougher to find a nice peel-n-stick label.

For all my regular binders, I've copied your idea and make my own inserts.

Hi

Avery label and press type lettering (dry transfer lettering). To preserve the lettering I apply Scotch Tape (the transparent matte type) before applying the label. That way the tape is on the label only.

If I do re-label a binder I remove the label and with alcohol and/or lighter fluid remove any gummy residue. I use a type of binder that is not vinyl so I do not know what damage, if any, alcohol or lighter fluid would do to the binder.

In 20 years I haven't had a label fall off.

Hi mobilman44,

Have a look at the foil based label kits from this outfit. I have used them on some albums as a test and they work well and look fine. They will look good no matter what colour your album binder. You can make up a spine head country title together with a spine foot title giving album number and years covered.

Terry

Edited for omission. TC.

I don't know if this is up your alley or not but here is what I do.-
I put a very discrete colored dot just to the left of the bottom of the spine that correlates with a color key on my desk (just in case I forget whats what.) No one can see the dots without a close inspection but I know where it is and that's what counts.

Hi Terry

Nice labels. It is interesting that there are no labels for any Latin America or Caribbean country.
