Every now and then I come across some old city of Toronto scenes in lots and accumulations. Some of the scenes are very nice.

Here is a scene of. Stamp was cancelled with a 3-ring Toronto "Orb" cancellation but was not a clear strike. However, there is a very cleat single-ring CDS cancellation of Avon, Penn, cancellation used here as a receiver.

Here are two postcards of the Toronto General Hospital private patients pavilion which was later called the Bell wing. It existed from 1930 to 2001 at the corner of University Avenue and Gerrard Street West. It was one of my favorite looking old buildings in Toronto that no longer exists anymore.

Great card jogil

Many years ago as a kid I passed that hospital on my journeys to downtown Toronto.

The face of Toronto has sure changed over the years to say the least.

Here is a nice view of Hanlan's Point showing the amusement center.

We had to go on one of the ferries to get there from the mainland.

This is a nice card showing downtown Toronto on King Street looking on Yonge Street. Yonge Street is said to be the largest street in Canada.

I sometimes wish I could travel back and see it in those days.

This is a Valentine & Sons card #109,231 from a series

One more card for the day.

This one shows Toronto as it appeared in 1803.

The stamp on this card was tied with a Toronto 3-ring "Orb" cancellation dated February 1, 1908.

Wow I love them! I really like how they look like, or maybe are, watercolor paintings.

Thank you all.

It is a labour of love as they say.

Toronto is not my specialty but a lot do come my way in collections etc.

They come in handy for trades for postcards / covers of the areas I collect, which are Muskoka / Parry Sound, ocean liners, martial arts and Canadian military views.

Yes, nice Toronto cards everyone. Though I don't live in the city any more, I've been working downtown again, and it's always interesting to see how it's changed, even in my short time here.
I'll add a couple to this show, though I usually collect for the business side of the card.

Yonge St. docks. They don't look like this anymore, believe me!

Rosedale is still a very posh part of town.

Hanlan's Point is on Toronto Island out in Lake Ontario. Named after famous 19th century Canadian oarsman Ned Hanlan, the amusement park is gone but the Island still draws tourists and city dwellers looking to escape the heat of the city. Hanlan's Point beach is 'clothing optional' for those that are interested.

This is the fourth Lieutenant Governor's residence to be called Government House. It was built between 1911 and 1915. Bought by the city, it was torn down in 1961 and the grounds turned into a park. Today, Chorley Park is 'naturalized', meaning the gardens have gone fallow. It is also located in the posh Rosedale neighbourhood.

Great cards jamesw

You have to admit, the government buildings in those days had class.

I have many more Toronto cards and they are all interesting. So many types and so many publishers to consider.

Great looking postcards!

Going back to your first scan, with the received stamp from Avon, PA, you may want to note that it is a discontinued post office, making that postmark all the more collectible.

Glad to hear that wt1

If I remember correctly, I have another postcard with a Toronto scene from the same correspondence with another Avon, Pa. marking.

I just wish postmarks were the same today as well

I should point out that Hanlan's Point, shown on one of Bujutsu's cards and one of mine, is the site of Babe Ruth's first professional home run!
