Scanned here is a cover from the Humphrey to Rosseau dogsled run. These were processed from the mid 1980s to 2011, which is believed to have been the last year this run / event took place.

Each year, there were between two and three thousand covers processed. The Postmaster stated that some collectors didn't even want the stamps cancelled but, just handed back. This doesn't make sense to me, but, to each their own. The Rosseau Postmaster also assured me that only 10 (ten) covers were ever signed by her for any given year. All signed covers are in my collection.

Too bad this event no longer takes place. I understand that one of the main organisers passed away in 2011.

Bujutsu: you're probably too young to remember when the mail was delivered by dogsled from Port Arthur's Landing and Fort William (since combined to become Thunder Bay, Ontario) down the Lake Superior shore into Minnesota. Played an important part in forwarding mail that related to railway construction to the powers-that-be in Montreal if memory serves me. Jeez, it was cold in them years.

Hi Cynical

I have heard of that run, but, as you state, too young to remember it happening.

My wife collects pure-bred dogs on stamps and every time I got one of these covers, I made it a point to give her one as well. We were once Tibetan Spaniel breeders. So, dogs, sea life and the Vatican are my wife's specialties.

Haven't heard from you in a while

All the best

Hi all. I have heard from the grapevine that this particular dogsled run is again in operation.

I am still collecting but have down-sized my collection. Good to be back
