It appears as though it may be an H turned sideways. Don't know if Halifax had one like that?

My first thought was the R for Registered but just with an odd shape and partially missing but yea…I don't think I've seen a cancel quite like this before?

I think a fancy H is most likely, and it looks genuine enough. The standard reference for these is Lacelle's BNAPS book on cancels, but Day and Smythies handbook suffices for well known and common cancels.

Based on the handbook by Dave Lacelle that looks like either #478 or #480, both of which originate in HAGERSVILLE, ONTARIO
