My Scott catalogue gives a CV of only 20c for this stamp (6N12). Yet a copy on ebay sold for around $375. Can anyone explain this?

6N12 which has a Scott value of .20 has violet numerals, sold stamp which has white numerals may be a 6N6A which has a Scott value of $125.00. (2007 catalogue)

Thanks, Rhino Dino! That would be the answer (although selling something for three times its catalogue value is still pretty impressive).

Catalogue could be quite low on this item, and based on the market for a mix of genuine and fake stamps.

Mr. Flasch would be the recognized expert for these, so if his mark is genuine, you'd have about the best feeling you could have that the stamp was genuine.

Scott is not always accurate, depending on the country/period in question. Given that these are extensively forged, if this is indeed genuine it may be more scarce than Scott indicates.

Also, some Scott values have not been updated in decades (this may not apply in this case).

There are U.S. revenues cataloguing under $100 that I've never been able to locate, never seen at auction, and never seen in the inventories of national specialist dealers, and trust me I've looked...

For example, I think that U.S. Registry seals (1872) are underrated... both in the catalog and on the market. For me, it is one of the most amazing seals at all... and especially looks nice in a good condition and with a nice postmark.

Off-topic, sorry...

@jimjamtwo

The 1984 Romanian Catalogue , on page 67 says as follows :

nr.336 15 Bani , violet , White figures ,200 pieces over-printed .
And the price is same unused/used.

The stamp what you found on Scott ( 20 c ) the Romanian catalogue gives the followings :

nr. 337, 15 Bani , Violet, Violet figures, 260,400 pcs over-printed.

Now I guess you realized why nr. 336 is so expensive !
