I have a view on this, but would appreciate the community's opinions and experience.
I am looking to protect my 400+ covers each in individual Cover Sleeves and it appears the there are these three choices of material
Polyethylene (about $8 for 100)
Polyvinyl (about $42 for 100)
Polyester (about $55 for 100)
I'm leaning toward the Polyester since they appear to be the best (4mil crystal clear used by Library of Congress). But the Polyvinyl seems good too...
Go with whichever is within your budget. I use polyethylene...protects and does the job...i also buy (acid free)comic book backing boards which I cut to size and insert in the sleeve with the cover.
Can't really answer the question until we see typical covers. In older covers, the toning or aging damage has already been done, so the protection would involve mostly the prevention of physical damage.
I not qualified to tell you which type is better but I use the Supersafe museum grade holders (archival 4 mil polyester).
I purchase them from Green Dragon Stuff Stamp and Coin Supplies ( http://greendragonstuff.com/items/S...ers/list.htm ) -- their prices are lower than the ones you cite. 100 4-1/4" x 7-3/8" US cover holders are $31.85 plus S&H (around $10).
Thanks Tomiseksj, Smauggie and Graphis for your answers.
Zipper--not quite following you...my question was which of these three materials
Doug2222: you asked to see some of my covers; not sure how that matters but i've posted many of them on the Canada forum...but here are a few since you asked...
