This little beauty has watermark 20 and is a perf 14. No plate numbers and going by the stars in the top corners and the white paper, that would make it a Scott #20, correct? How can I tell if it's been re-engraved? And more importantly, is this rose red or red brown? It looks pretty dark to me, but what do I know?

Hi Lindseyr702

It is probably from the second official perforation, Die I alphabet II and should have a small crown watermark, dating probably from 1855. If it was on blued paper it would be slightly more valuable.
The penny reds are very complicated and the range of shades is large.

Hi lindseyr702

It would still be from 1855 but would be Type I die II and alphabet II
