Are There Any Living People On US Stamps Yet?

I don't collect modern US stamps so I would not know the answer to this. In 2011 it was proposed that, to be on a stamp, you no longer had to croak first. There were a couple of posts about it back then. I was wondering if enough time had passed to where people still living have appeared on US stamps (or are going to) and who has?

Was this just discussed in 2011 but never happened?

No, it never happened. It was rejected by the USPS Board of Governors who was opposed to the idea. There was a previous intention that there would be a Medal of Honor Stamp slated for later this year that would have depicted the images and names of living MOH recipients on the selvage, but that, too, has been withdrawn from consideration.

Seems to me it would be a big risk putting a living person on a stamp, and then finding out they are not so worthy later on..........

That's exactly the problem with the entire concept. It was mentioned in the previous link about what an embarrassment would have occurred had some questionable personalities who were highly regarded at one point in their career but were later found to be less than stellar citizens were depicted on a stamp. Just imagine the likes of a stamp that may have featured OJ Simpson or Joe Paterno or Lance Armstrong, among others.

meh, leave that to other countries to idolize the living. How many countries have already portrayed obama on a stamp.

Imagine if Lance Armstrong was already featured on a USA stamp! Hahaha

USPS learned their lesson when they depicted Homer Simpson on a stamp.

Living people have been depicted on US stamps, but never featured!
Example the 9/11 semi postal or Iwo Jima flag raising, but the event was the focus not the people!
