Another item found last night in an estate auction win is this 1933 3 cent meter from the House of Assembly in Toronto. The return address on the back is Office of the Prime Minister & President of the Council Ontario.

Meters aren't my thing, but this will find a place in the cover album. Thought it was kind of pretty, especially the green.

Catalog A1.1.

While not a rare meter indicia, it is a lovely meter impression and cover.

Follow up to this post. Acquired this 1945 House of Assembly meter today. This second cover is dated Sept 27 1945 and is a Type 12 (Holme's Specialized Philatelic Catalogue), earliest known date May 1936. Sent from the Department of Highways.
Looks like someone was practicing with their sewing machine on this cover.

Can one get a refund on their gasoline tax? But yes, it is a great meter!

I guess, back in 1945. Sadly the envelope was empty.

I made a minor effort to find out more about this. Gas (and other) taxes were raised as a wartime fiscal measure. Could not easily find information on any refund program. I suspect that you got a rebate for gas burned in support of the war effort. Cheers,

Apparently, Ontario gas tax refunds are still available today, with the restrictions as noted in these guidelines:
