Just got this Scott 15. There is a big red dot Under the sun where a tree should be. The dot is as big as the rock in waterfall variety. I know there is an unlisted variety called "extra moon in sky" but this one is more like a rising moon.....Would anyone have any information or opinions on this ? Also, this stamp shows clear signs of re-entry very noticeable in the "O" of postage and by the extension of the lower left frame in both directions.

This is the "Burning Tree" variety. Not sure which state of the plate or position it is from.

You might want to try this site Coriandre - - http://www.re-entries.com/listings.html

The site is thorough and lists many types of Canadian constant plate varieties.

The Five Cents Beaver Stamp of Canada (1985, 92 pages) book by Geoffrey Whitworth shows 'the burning bush' as 'position 10, state 1'.

Thanks a lot for the great info ! I had never heard of the "burning bush" variety before but the name makes sens ! There is practically no information regarding this variety online. I found only a faulty stamp with this variety sold by Maresch in 2007 for 90$.

I looked online for the book you mention but it seems to be out of stock everywhere. I also saw this book that seems very interesting :
The Five Cent Beaver II. Plating the More Notable Varieties and Re-entries, 2007 by Kenneth A. Kershaw
but the book is 200$.

Being a hunter for re-entries and varieties, I use www.re-entries.com very often. This stamp is not on the site. I will email concerning the possible re-entry on this one although I had emailed Mr.Trimble a month ago and never got a reply.

Here is the Position 10 information in Whitworth:

(Thank you studystamps)

Coriandre, if are really interested in varieties you will have to invest in the reference books. A tremendous amount of work has been done in the plating field. Go to the BNAPS website and check out the literature available.

The internet provides a lot of useful information but is no substitute for specialized reference books. If you are serious you will have to buy the books.

For those seeking books that are scarce, expensive or out of print, I remind Forum members that the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation has an extensive library in its Toronto location. Although I don't know the exact number, I would guess that we have more than 12,000 books on the shelves plus cabinets of philatelic research files.

The library is open to philatelists by appointment (Monday thru Thursday). Some material is available for borrowing but arrangements must be made with the librarian.

Anyone looking to see if a title is available can go to the website: www.greenefoundation.ca where you can click on "Library" and find the online catalogue. The catalogue is also linked to the American Philatelic Society in Bellefonte Pennsylvania.
