I recently bought a lot from a dealer and in it I found these two stamps ( SG 201 and 172). Both are overprinted.

sg 201 is overprinted double with the words half penny and sg 172 has a diagonal red line and 1/2 d on both sides of the line in red.

I can't find any info on them and any help with the identification is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Perhaps someone was playing around? Or working on their fakes using common stamps for practice?

The one penny could have a "used abroad" cancellation. Pity that a number is not visible as that would give the location. It was not uncommon for stamps to be bisected in the far-flung empire when shortages arose. Perhaps the stamp was part of a sheet made ready for bisecting and then not cut diagonally as the need for bisects was unnecessary.

They are both fake overprints.

The genuine overprints were used on Niger Coast Protectorate (Oil Rivers) but are nothing like these monstrosities which do not exist on the basic British stamps,

I'd guess the first is postmarked ALLOA (Scotland), which should rule out any possibility of that one being anything other than fakery.
