The card is from the July 1897 printing, as denoted by the 797f marking at lower right. It was mailed from the cruiser SMS Gefion while it was in Hong Kong with a portion of the German East Asia Squadron, 24 December 1898. It arrived in Dresden on 22 July 1899.

It's not particularly rare, but these cards are not incredibly common, either. MSP P1 cards in good, used condition typically sell for €25-50.

it is nice to read that the sailor (mechanical mate)ordered a catalogue of bicycles planning to order one on his return in spring.

It was bought with 76 us dollars on ebay. Is it expensive too. What is the content of German writing? Can anyone tell? Please comment.
